Edinburgh House

Working in collaboration with long-time client Workspace, known as London’s leading provider of flexible offices, Bluebottle was appointed to enhance the conversion of a 1970s office block in SE11. Once the stables for Kensington Palace and later occupied by the Metropolitan Police, the brief was to transform the building into a contemporary, agile, and engaging work environment for a local creative crowd.

Project Name

Edinburgh House

Location

London

Project Size

16,000 Sq Ft

Central to the renovation was the conversion of a carpark transformed into a triple-height ETFE-covered atrium, designed by a base architect. To humanise the volume of the space, Bluebottle created a series of bold zones through the insertion of stairs, cantilevered lighting, and large steel and coloured glass screen dividers. Working with an edited material palette of pre-cast concrete, glazing, steel, in homage to the building’s Brutalist structure, Bluebottle used the atrium as a fulcrum from which meeting rooms, open collaborative workspaces, common lounge spaces and on the ground floor, the welcoming reception and a sociable café, are set out.

Layers of textures such as block coloured carpeting, designed by Bluebottle and custom furniture as well as wall and floor tiling recall the building’s heritage. In addition, Bluebottle installed a bespoke lighting tree feature with a surrounding upholstered banquette to encourage collaboration and a sense of warmth.
