China Works

Housed in the erstwhile Royal Doulton’s principal offices in the historically significant former 19th century warehouse at Southbank House, Bluebottle was appointed by Workspace, known as London’s leading provider of flexible offices, to create a new front of house with a lively café space, surrounding agile co-working areas, meeting rooms and common parts for China Works.

Project Name

China Works

Location

London

Project Size

13,000 Sq Ft

The design brief included retention of the building’s character but with the introduction of stylish, timeless interiors, which would feel seamlessly integrated design wise but also create a convivial space that could strengthen productivity and promote social interaction.

Keen to respect the building’s industrial heritage, Bluebottle exposed original brickwork and added details such as sympathetic wall paneling to bring the old and new together. A palette of warm colour-blocked tones and vivid zoned carpeting for both the open work areas, meeting rooms and social spaces were introduced to bring the entire space together. The installation of industrial-style lighting, fluted, glazed paneling, and steel-frames also recalled the building’s past.

Bluebottle commissioned bespoke neon signage and placed carefully curated artwork including a ceramic plate installation and a custom-made Pyrolave tiled servery counter to complete the cohesive design language and flow of the space.
