Project Size: 5500 sq ft
Construction Period: 46 weeks
Completed: August 2009
This end-of-mews property hides a former dairy, with its internal courtyard secluded behind a large, sliding oak gate. The property has been transformed into a contemporary, five-bedroom house. New, fully glazed facades have opened up the building to the central courtyard, looking both across and into the property. The building’s former use is hinted at by the double-height gallery, with its large skylight illuminating the open plan dining area.
The cantilevered staircase linking the three floors, bespoke joinery, frameless glass balustrade and architectural lighting help to enhance the simplicity of the space. A new basement excavation under the entire house has created additional bedrooms (with large lightwells), a cinema room and gym. Careful selection of furniture adds a sense of warmth and homeliness to the contemporary space.
